Course content
The course explains the global diversity of the flowering plants. The basic taxonomic unit in this course is the order. The main goal is to offer the introduction to worldwide orders of angiosperms with emphasis on the main families and genera. The course shall help students to better understand the diversity of flowering plants at the global level. 1. Classification of Angiopserms: past and current opinions. Major phylogentic groups within Angiopserms. 2. Archaic groups within Angiopserms (ANITA grade, Magnoliids) 3. Mocots I. 4. Monocots II. 5. Monocots III. 5. Basal Dicots, Eudicots, Core Eudicots 6. Core Eudicots I. (Fabids I.) 7. Core Eudicots II. (Fabids II.) 8. Core Eudicots III. (Malvids) 10. Core Eudicots IV. (Asterids I.: Lamiids) 11. Core Eudicots V. (Asterids II.: Campanulids I.) 12. Core Eudicots VI. (Asterids III: Campanulids II.)

Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to explain the diversity of flowering plants (Magnoliophyta, Angiosperms) in the evolutionary context. Different approaches in the angiosperm classification will be discussed and major evolutionary trends explained. The main aim is to describe the global diversity of flowering at the order level with special emphasis on important families and genera. All orders of the world angiosperms will be presented according to modern classifications (APG III, Takhtajan).
Student should be able to (after attending the course): - Explain the major evolutionary trends in Angiosperms - Explain evolutionary relationships among major clades of Angiosperms - Define the major clades of angiosperms (at the level of order) - Describe the main morphological characteristics of the all orders of flowering plants - Characterize the worldwide distribution of major groups of Angiosperms
