The methodology of the Zurich-Montpellier (= Braun-Blanquet) floristic-phytosociological school. Main vegetation units of the classification system and their characterization (with an emphasis to the association). International Code of Phytosociological Nomenclature. Vegetation data collection by means of vegetation relevés. Some exploitation options of vegetation sampling in a biological monitoring within protected territories. A tabular method for treatment of relevés (vegetation synthesis). Vegetation maps and their application in applied research.

Introduction to the vegetation science. Characteristics of the plant community (phytocoenosis). Principal approaches into vegetation classification.
Student should be able to (after attending the course): - Describe the Plant communities, their structure, species diversity changes in space and time, and geographic pattern. - Describe main research tools and methods in Vegetation Science (Advantages and limitations). Systemic approach. - Explain main classification approaches, describe the principles of Zürich-Montpellier classification. - Describe theoretical background of Vegetation releves, Vegatation tables, analysis of data, classification of vegetation according to International Codes of Vegetation Nomenclature. - Apply vegetation research in praxis, vegetation mapping, bio-monitoring.
