Course content
Word formation of scientific and technical terms. Chemical nomenclature of inorganic and organic substances. Structure of scientific articles, basic principles of academic English. Techniques of reading of academic texts. Reading of English scientific texts, understanding and interpretation of content. Watching educational and scientific videos in English. Acquiring the terminology of chemical fields with focus on analytical methods

Learning outcomes
The course is primarily intended for students of programs implemented by the Department of Analytical Chemistry, or for students of other chemical and related fields interested in analytical methods and related instrumentation. It is mainly focused on the development of language skills, understanding of professional English literature (academic texts, scientific publications, application notes, technical instructions, etc.) and oral speech (video, conference presentations). Writing of undemanding technical texts is also covered.
Vocabulary expansion. Ability to effectively extract the desired information from large scientific articles based on understanding of the structure of an academic text. The ability to interpret the important content of a scientific or technical text or follow the given instructions. Familiarity with common analytical and technical terms
Prerequisites
Language skills at the level of completed high school education.
