Learning outcomes
|
The course Fundamentals of Private Law introduces students to key areas, institutions, and principles of private law in the context of sustainable development of society. Attention is paid to distinguishing private law from public law, its basic principles, sources, and historical development in the Czech lands. Students will become familiar with the legal regulation of natural and legal persons in detail and learn to recognize the significance of legal facts, in particular legal acts, the passage of time, limitation periods, and preclusion. They will also gain a deeper insight into property law, contract law, including contracting and selected types of contracts, as well as the issues of damages and unjust enrichment. Significant attention will also be paid to consumer protection and the general principles of corporate law and its specific types. After completing the course, students will be able to apply their knowledge and skills in various areas of law and regulation, particularly in regulatory and supervisory bodies, non-governmental organizations, and think tanks focused on sustainable consumption, in the corporate sphere, particularly in the area of compliance, CSR, and legal consulting in marketing and advertising, or in academic and research environments with an emphasis on sustainable development. The course connects the traditional field of private law with current challenges related to sustainability and responsible business, preparing students to solve legal problems in the modern economy. The course provides a foundation for further study in other courses specializing in law and sustainability (e.g., Sustainable Consumption and Consumer Protection, Legal Responsibility in the Context of Sustainability, Sustainability and Socially Responsible Business, Labor Law Aspects of Sustainability, etc.).
After completing the course, students will be able to: 1. Distinguish between private and public law and apply the principles of private law. 2. Identify and analyze the legal status of natural and legal persons. 3. Understand legal facts, including legal acts, time, limitation periods, and preclusion. 4. Apply knowledge of property law to practical situations. 5. Understand contract law, including contracting and selected types of contracts. 6. Assess and address issues of consumer protection, damages, and unjust enrichment. 7. Analyze corporate law, including general principles and selected types of corporations.

Course assessment Continuous assessment at the end of each of the four modules (completion and submission of practical assignments following the completion of Modules 1, 2, 3 and 4): 30% Final written assignment - essay (5-6 pages): 30% Online presentation of the final written assignment: 40%
