Private Roman Law has become the basis of our legal culture. Gradual reception of the Roman Law by the legal systems of European states was one of the key stages of the European legal development. The seminars will be focused on the sources of the Roman Law, and the reception of Roman Law in Europe from 11th to 19th centuries. The emphasis will especially be put on the process of reception within the national law and on the Roman Law studies at the University of Prague. An important part of the seminars will be dedicated to analysis and interpretation of texts of legal orders in our territory, which were influenced by the Roman Law. The attention will also be focused on significant scholars of the Czech and Czechoslovak legal Roman Law studies.
Students who have completed this subject will gain knowledge necessary to understand our legal culture and the process of reception of the Roman Law within Europe. |
