Criminology is a multi-branch science that deals with the structure, development and dynamics of crime, causes and conditions for the origin of pathologic behaviour and its control. The subject also studies victims (victimology) and the personality of a criminal. The subject is in its contents a branch very close to criminal law. Mastering of criminology basics is therefore essential for profound understanding of criminal law in its wider coherences. The objective of the course is an introduction to relevant general issues (subject, methods, theories in criminology, etiology of criminal behaviour, etc.), followed by specific fields as juvenile delinquency, violent crime, sexual crime, property criminality or organised crime in the national and European context.
