1. What economics is and why a lawyer should know about it 2. Economic systems, economic subjects, markets and its types 3. What is supply and demand, market for goods and services and the labour market 4. What is a shortage and what is a surplus and how to read the graphs 5. History of monetary systems, types of money. 6. Banking - role of central banks, the European central bank and money supply 7. Banking - banks and history, role of the banking system, loans, mortgages, interest rates in connection with historical development and religion 8. European integration - reasons, history, today and future predictions 9. World economic centres and their changing roles 10. Basic macroeconomics - inflation, GDP, unemployment ? 11. Basic microeconomics - introduction to microeconomics, marginal utility, marginal costs ? 12. A comparison of selected countries in connection with their economic development

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the subject is to provide to the students orientation in English terminology concerning basic economic terms and thereby provide the possibility to enlarge and strengthen their current knowledge of English economic terms. The subject is designed to stimulate the interest of the students of both economic issues as well as development of their English skills. The requirement for succeeding in the subject is high rate or student's participation in the seminars and interest in the discussed issues.
Gained knowledge and skills Passing the course will help the student to both strengthen his current knowledge in the area of economic English with the emphasis on his own expression abilities , the ability of discussion over the economic problems and mainly gain a positive approach to presentation of his own ideas and attitudes in English. He will also learn a framework of the development of economic thoughts and get acquainted with selected economic terms that will enable him to understand better the current economic development and complexity of economics as science and its connection with everyday life.

The completion of this course is not conditioned upon completion of any other courses.

Assessment methods and criteria

Student performance
1. Presence at at least 7/13 seminars 2. Active participation at the seminars, presentation and defense of own opinions 3. Individual presentation of chosen economic topic - choice of the topic, presentation of the actual topic including vocabulary, discussion to the topic
