The aim of the course is to introduce the activities of the Ombudsman in the areas in which the Ombudsman can act. Under the guidance of lawyers from the Ombudsman's Office, students will experience the examination of real cases from the Ombudsman's practice, including the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities, pension issues in the Ombudsman's practice, health insurance, social and legal protection of children's rights, employment and labour law and the protection of the rights of persons deprived of their liberty. The course is implemented in a form based on the active approach of students. The seminar is conducted interactively (solving case studies in which students apply the information obtained in a simulation of a legal case). Students who are interested may, by agreement, undertake a longer internship with an ombudsman, which can be used in the undergraduate courses "Professional Practice I and II". Upon completion of the clinic, students will have an overview of the Ombudsman's work in selected areas, specifically familiarizing themselves with the course of an investigation, the contents of case files, and will be able to analyze practical situations.
The student will be able to: - work with a written complaint to the Ombudsman, understand it and summarise the relevant information it conveys, - identify legal problems in specific practical situations and determine whether the problem falls within the Ombudsman's remit, - analyse legal problems, find relevant information and propose solutions in the context of the Ombudsman's remit. |

Student performance
The course is divided into 6 seminars, at least 3 of which the student must attend in person. In case of absence in any of the other 3 seminars, the following rule applies: For the first absence the student does not have to make up any make-up work. In case of the second and third absences, the student must make up the substitute in agreement with the teacher. Detailed knowledge of legal regulations in the taught areas is not a prerequisite for participation. |
