The course acquaints students with basic elements of medical law from the perspective of the patient. Interdisciplinarity of the course is ensured by the participation of students from various faculties of Palacký University. The course will be realized in a practical form based on active approach of students, solving case studies, controlled discussions and independent work of students so that they are prepared for model situations that may occur in practice. Update for ZS AR 2019/2020: The course Clinic of Patient Rights will be taught in the winter semester in the academic year 2019/2020 because of the fact that its teaching will be largely led by prof. Lisa Radtke Bliss of the Georgia State University College of Law, who will be staying as a Fulbright Distinguished Chair at Palacký Law Faculty. Prof. Bliss is one of the world's leading experts in clinical legal education with an interdisciplinary approach, particularly in the field of human rights and health law. The subject will be conceived as a practical entry into the field of health law in a comparative perspective (Czech Republic and USA). Students will first get acquainted with the basic principles of medical law, understand the main differences between the Czech and American concepts in access to health services. Students will also be working with prof. Bliss on a semestral project that can take the form of an expert analysis or amicus brief (as agreed with the professor). To obtain the colloquium, students have to attend the lessons and submit their part of the semester work. The classes will take place every Tuesday from 17 September to 22 October from 16:45 to 19:45 in English.
In this subject, students will link theoretical knowledge of different areas of law and other sciences to get better understanding of functioning of health care in practice. They will develop professional skills such as analysis and problem solving, drafting legal documents, communication with a client and others.
