Learning outcomes
Family, its concept and significance from a sociological, psychological, educational point of view, etc. Socio-cultural specifics of the Czech environment in relation to families of persons with special needs, including the historical context. Characteristic topics related to the experiences of parents / carers of people with special needs and the impact of special needs on the family - e.g. caregiving burden and the issue of multiple roles, economic burden, consequences for the physical and mental health of parents / carers, relational and personal benefits, the process of coping with disability, coping and resilience in families of persons with special needs, etc. Siblings of persons with special needs - lived experiences of siblings, effects of special needs of siblings on adaptation and functioning (e.g. influence of internalizing and externalizing factors), health and quality of life, approaches for psychosocial support of siblings and their effectiveness. Formal and informal support for families of persons with special needs - concept of family-centered care, barriers in the use of professional services, examples of interventions, typical professional services for families. A combination of formal and informal support, its possibilities and pitfalls. An overview of public support available at different stages of a caring family's life. Social factors in relation to a family with a person with special needs - attitudes of the environment, stereotypes in the approach to people with special needs, barriers and facilitators in the social environment with an emphasis on the domestic socio-cultural context. The social level of the position of the caring family in the context of the social, economic, political and normative development of the Czech Republic. Specific and caring family-oriented systems of public support for caring families and their elements.
