The objective of the discipline is a diachronic approach to the evaluation of an individual with hearing impairment based on the study of historical resources. In terms of content, the discipline covers an outline of historical development of care for persons with hearing impairment, origination and development of institutions providing educational and social care, contribution of significant personalities in various historical periods, development of opinions on the nature of educational intervention depending on the preferred communication system, and a discourse on the attitude to education of individuals with hearing impairment in the Czech Republic and abroad.
