The course provides insight into special needs education for people with hearing impairment - surdopedy, which is a prerequisite for determining the general background and theoretical starting points for work with children with hearing impairment at a pre-school age, and with children with primary hearing impairment accompanied by secondary visual, intellectual or mobility impairment. The course includes diagnostics in special needs education for people with hearing impairment, differential diagnostics and counselling. It presents the current perspective of education for children with hearing impairment with regard to profiling of approaches to education according to the preferred communication system, and overviews of the current system of institutional care for individuals with hearing impairment. The course involves acquisition of the basics of specific communication skills needed for communication with children with hearing impairment within the framework of intercultural communication.
