Lexicology as a science of vocabulary. Its relation to lexicography and phraseology. Relationship to other disciplines, especially philosophy and psychology. Lexical semantics. The word as the central unit of language and the concept of the lexical unit. Form of lexical units. Notional and pragmatic components of word meaning. The stratification of vocabulary. Meaning relations between lexical units. Lexical paradigmatics and syntagmatics. Limit cases of labeling. Indirect nominalization, relations based on similarity and cooccurrence. Word play, signs of linguistic expressiveness and comedy. Phraseological and idiomatic formations. Complex lexical analysis of the text. Vocabulary dynamics. Lexicographical and etymological interpretation of words.
