Literature for children and youth (LDM) and its place in national literature, specific features, functions and significance. Text selection, connection to reading and reading categories. Basic terminology, relationship of LDM to folklore and its genres, collecting folklore. Representation of genres and genre variants in LDM in terms of literary types (fairy tales, myths, legends, legends, fables, adventure literature, fantasy, science fiction, story with a child hero, historical themes, biography). Significant works and their authors in the context of intentional Czech and world LDM, adaptations of literary texts for young readers. Relation of LDM to other artistic fields (theatre, music, visual arts, film, etc.). Outline of the literary and historical development of LDM in the context of Czech national literature. Educational and artistic-instructional work for children and youth. Literature for children and young people in the social context (publishing, literary prizes, competitions and projects, professional research on LDM, etc.). Upon completion of the course, students should be able to: - orient themselves in the above mentioned topics; - demonstrate expertise in the field of children's and young people's literature (with a focus on primary education); - competently assess the artistic quality and didactic potential of literature for young school-age children.
