Learning outcomes
The course Literature of the 20th Century focuses on the cultural development of a given era in human history. It seeks to its thematic fulfilment to bring students to the idea of linking the cross-cutting themes with literary texts, so that students are able to approach the development of 20th century culture in accordance with the cultural, educational and aesthetic-educational function of the literary text. Through selected texts of Czech and world literature of the first half of the 20th century to understand how to fulfill the communicative goals of literary education in relation to the present. The course focuses on the perceptual component (the art of extracting information from a text - the artistic character, historical, social), as well as the production component (creating own opinion on the work and its defense). The course builds on the development of reading literacy and critical thinking in future teachers. Objectives: Upon completion of the course, students should be able to: - define the basic historical and cultural framework of the development of Czech society in European and world context in the period 1900 - 2000; - explain the basic specifics of the development of Czech literature and dramatic production in this period with emphasis on the main lines of production (official and unofficial); - characterise the changes in world literature in the 20th century; - list and characterize the major genres and genre variants cultivated in the period; - assess the work of selected profile authors of the period and place them in context contemporary culture; - evaluate the resonance of their work in contemporary culture; - formulate one's own attitude towards the artistic production of the period; - analyse and interpret selected artistic texts; - present their own interpretation of a selected artistic text from the literature of the period with a view to its possible application in the classroom; - argue in discussions over the artistic value of a work.
