Course content
The subject focuses on practical training and development of knowledge and skills of students in phonetics and phonology, including theory of phonology and acoustic, auditory and perception phonetics.

Learning outcomes
The aim of this subject is to provide a concise yet comprehensive summary of pivotal topics from phonetics and phonology, with a focus on articulatory, acoustic, and auditory phonetics. One important goal is to teach the students how to make phonetic and phonological transcriptions, including basic phonological phenomena (sonancy assimilation, articulatory assimilation, nasalization, hiatal mutations, monophthongization and diphthongization, palatalization, etc.). Another aim is to teach the students to perform segmental and suprasegmental phonetic and phonologic text/utterance analysis. The subject also provides an overall with the declared phonetic typology).

Assessment methods and criteria

Seminar theses of 3 to 5 pages. Topics are based on themes discussed (see http://cestina.upol.cz/kopecky část Fonetika a fonologie). The theses will be checked by the lecturer. Seminar theses will be presented at the www presentation of the lecturer. A seminar thesis focused on the subject with own analysis of a selected text. Creative language unit to be analysed (suprasegmental and segmental). 80% attendance rate at seminars.
