Upon completion of the course, students should be able to: define a syntagm and clarify which terms enter into syntagms, define the primary and secondary function of word types, describe syntactic relationships between sentence members including syntactic multiplication positions, define the valency concept of syntax, apply their knowledge in creating grammatical sentence patterns, define individual sentence members, list and characterize their types, use examples to demonstrate the differences between them, clarify the basic types of clauses in Czech, distinguish between true and false hypotactic, perform a complex syntactic analysis of simple sentences and clauses including hierarchical graphical recording, describe and recognise the peculiarities and irregularities of sentence structure, define the basic communicative functions of utterance.
