Learning outcomes
The basis of "Introduction to Language Study" subject 1 is three complementary and mutually supporting levels: (1) to gain basic insight into language study, including elementary theoretical foundations (and terminology); (2) to expand existing awareness of specific issues related to language in a wider systemic context, focusing on its sound (phonetic) and graphic (spelling) form, and (3) to support skills that lead to the conscious use of linguistic knowledge in practice during teaching.
After completing the course students should be able to: Understand the basic parameters of native language studies including elementary theoretical foundations (and terminology). Understand the system of Czech voice and to know their basic description and / or classification. To think meaningfully and intimately on specific language issues in a broader historical and systemic context. Use skills and acquired competencies that lead to the conscious use of linguistic knowledge in further study of the given field and in practice in teaching.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Written exam

Test The test will be realized in the written form, which will be focused on individual topics covered and discussed in lectures and especially in seminars. Some questions will test students' understanding of the subject matter and verify their understanding of selected concepts. The test will also work for students with acquired skills, especially when it comes to working with specific language material. Oral Exam The exam will take place orally and will be based on the thematic areas published in MS Teams at the beginning of the winter semester 2024/2025. The student always chooses one topic at random, about which he should be able to speak independently for approx. 10 minutes. For individual findings, the student should be able to give specific examples working with language material, or the student may be asked to demonstrate knowledge on specific language material presented to him by the examiner.
