Course content
Rhetoric development from Antique period up today. Theoretical and practical acquintance with work of prolific authors. Development of rhetoric in Czech context. Speaker and his audience. Stylistic forms in spoken communication. Classification of rhetoric forms. Promoting, professional, occassional and ceremonial utterances. Specific aids of spoken utterances (suggestive, emphatic, illustrative, dramatic). Discussion management. Importance of arguing, inappropriate arguing.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course students should be able to: - to explain the contribution of individual historical periods to the development of rhetoric, - to list the leading figures who have contributed to the development of rhetoric, - to characterize the importance of rhetoric at present, - to characterize the most commonly used style procedures and the vocabulary, - to clarify the differences between promotional, professional, working and occasional speeches, - use appropriate linguistic means for individual expressions, - to recognize deficiencies in the stylization of basic speech, - to define the types of discussion and to clarify the principles of its governance, - Define the main features of appropriate and inappropriate arguments.
