Topics: General language lessons (basic linguistic terminology, language function, linguistic disciplines, language and its plane, narrowing, norm, codification). The place of Czech among Slavic languages. National language and its forms. Fundamentals of phonetics and phonology. Audio language and orthoepic principles. Graphic system of Czech and orthography (writing and its development, basic orthographic phenomena - lexical, morphological and syntactical spelling). Vocabulary (ways of enriching verbal inventory, basic terms of lexicology, lexicography - dictionaries). Basics of word formation. Formal and functional morphology. Grammatical categories of higher and lower order.

After completing the course students should be able to: - using linguistic theory to recognize and name specific language phenomena, - classify Slavic languages and describe the place of Czech among them, - define the national language and, on the basis of examples, characterize its individual forms, - to classify individual types of consonants and vowels, - Describe basic language audio, - to define the main orthoepic principles of Czech and pronunciation errors, - perform orthographic analysis of the text, - to apply orthographic algorithms in the areas of morphological, syntactic and lexical spelling, - to clarify basic ways of enriching vocabulary and creating new words in Czech, - on the basis of examples to explain the lexicon stratification, - to perform morphemic analysis of the word, - to define grammar categories of higher and lower order, - apply morphology to the language analysis of the text.
