Main topics of the course: Literature for children and youth and its place in national literature. Czech and international collectors and adapters of fairy tales and folktales. Author's fairy tale, typology. The development of the Czech author's fairy tale from the 19th century to the present, the most important representatives and works. The development of the world fairy tale from the 19th century to the present, the most important representatives and works. Czech poetry for children from the late 19th century to the present. World poetry for children from the late 19th century to the present. Prose with a children's hero, developmental tendencies, the most important representatives in Czech literature. Prose with a children's hero, developmental tendencies, the most important representatives in world literature. Magazines for pre-school children. Bibliotherapy. Picture books for preschool children, art literature for preschool children. Triviality in literature for children. Prizes awarded for children's literature.

Course objective: Student will acquire knowledge in the field of children's literature and will be oriented to contemporary intentional literature for preschool and yourger school-age children.

After finishing the course students should be able to: - explain specifics of literature for preschool children, - explain role of literature for children in terms of literacy development, - name and characterize genres of literature for preschool children; - appreciate the work of the most important representatives of Czech and world literature for children; - analyse and interpret an artistic text in the context of the work of a given author and the time of its creation; - formulate and present their own interpretation of a selected children's literature title; - orientate themselves in contemporary book and magazine production for preschool children.
