Course content |
Subject Communication in theory and practice focuses on the development of spoken and written expression of students. The discipline is focused both theoretically and practically. Students will be acquainted with the principles of monological and dialogical expressions, principles of substantive argumentation, as well as problems of argumentation fools, assertiveness, language diplomacy and empathy. In the field of writing, the basics of textual syntax and principles to be applied in text construction will be presented. Emphasis will be put on the application of theoretical knowledge in written and spoken communication. In addition to the realization of monologic and dialogical spoken speeches, the content of the seminars will be a complex analysis of communications. Principles of monologic and dialogical spoken speech (effective use of language resources, principles of correct pronunciation, language audio, non-verbal communication, vocal and breathing component of speech, contact means, Grice's communication maxims and Leech maxims of courtesy, dialogic communication errors, communication conflict). Principles of logical thinking and argumentation. Language diplomacy. Assertiveness. Empathy. Preparation of spoken speeches. Discussion and its management. Written expression - basics of text syntax, principles of text construction, use of expression means of individual language plans, deficiencies in text stylization.

After completing the course students should be able to: Define the principles of spoken, monologic and dialogical expression. Characterize frequent communication shortcomings. Clarify how best to formulate spoken speech in form and content. Demonstrate the ability to effectively use verbal and nonverbal communication in monologous spoken language. Demonstrate the ability to take part in the discussion and manage it. Clarify the basic principles of argumentation and demonstrate the ability to argue in spoken language. Clarify the basic principles of language diplomacy, assertiveness and empathy and demonstrate the ability to apply them in communication. Perform a comprehensive analysis of spoken speech. To create coherent and linguistically correct texts of different functional styles based on the use of knowledge and skills from other linguistic disciplines.
