Course content |
Literature for children and youth and its place in national literature, the importance of literature for children for the development of children's reading. Folk fairy tale, its incorporation into artistic literature, folklore theory of fairy tales. Czech and world collectors and fairy tales and reputation. Author's fairy tale, typology, leading representatives of Czech and world-wide fairy tales from the 19th century to the present. Czech poetry for children from the late 19th century to the present. World poetry for children in Czech translations. Prose with child hero, development tendencies, the most important representatives in Czech and world literature. Prose with girl heroine, development tendencies, the most significant representatives in Czech and world literature. Historical and Biographical Issues in Czech Literature for Children and Youth. Adventure themes, the most important representatives in Czech and world literature for children and youth. Fantasy and its most prominent leaders in Czech and world literature. Learning outcomes |
After completing the course students should be able to: - define the content and functions of literature for children and youth; - explain the specifics of literature for children and youth; - to clarify the role of literature for children and young people in terms of the development of reading literacy; - to enumerate and characterize genres of literature for children and youth; - to evaluate the creation of the most prominent representatives of Czech and world literature for children and youth; - to analyze and interpret artistic text in the context of the author's creation and the time of its creation; - to formulate and present their own interpretation of the selected title of literature for children and youth; - assess the quality of literary work designed for children and youth.
