Course content
Course description and content: Introduction the literary studies and its basic terms. Characteristic features of fiction, journalism and scientific literature. Functions of literature. Fiction as a means of communication. Possibilities of scientific approach to literature, basic trends in development of literary science and its fields. Organization of literary life. Organization of literary writing. Sign system of literary writing, versology basics. An importance of theoretical knowledge for development and cultivation of readership. Literary interpretation. A book as a source of information vs. piece of art, literary culture, functional elements of a book. Introduction to literary research work.

Course objectives: To clarify the functions of literature, To analyse possibilities of scientific approach to literature, To explain basic terms of literary science, To compare basic artistic periods and trends, To specify basic terms of Czech versology, To apply the theoretical knowledge for practical tasks solving, To interpret artistic literary text.
