The lectures focus on the cultural, political and social aspects of Czech modern literature. It emphasizes the transformation of Czech literature in the new century with respect to the formation of Czechoslovakia.

|
This course describes Czech literature originating within the period 1895 - 1945. Basic trends, mainstreams, and literary groups are described. Topics include: cultural and political development, magazines and their importance for literary history, history of literary criticism, censorship, Prague German-written works, symbolism, decadence, anarchism, impressionism.
