This study corresponds to the curriculum for the basic subject, Nineteenth-century Czech literature 2. It continues with a comparative approach to the interpretation of literary realism and naturalism (wider social contexts such as nationalism, the ways nineteenth-century industrial "globalization" is reflected in national interests and ethnographic issues) and addresses the genesis of thematic utopianism (according to Klácel and Arbes) in the context of European history, as well as the similar parnassianist tendencies of the "Lumír" group (Vrchlický and the circle of French writers known as l´art pour l´art). One significant topic will be the transnational context of the women's emancipation movement (leading up to the work of T. Nováková).
