Learning outcomes
The primary aim of this subject is to provide a concise yet comprehensive summary of pivotal topics from the field of phonetics and phonology, with a focus on articulatory, acoustic, and auditory phonetics. One important goal is to teach the students how to make phonetic and phonological transcriptions, including basic phonological phenomena (sonancy assimilation, articulatory assimilation, nasalization, hiatal mutations, monophthongization and diphthongization, palatalization, etc.). Another aim is to teach the students to perform segmental and suprasegmental phonetic and phonologic text/utterance analysis. The subject also provides an overall interpretation of the Czech system of speech sounds (in accordance with the declared phonetic typology).
