The course introduces students to the basic principles of creative art activities and their application in the educational practice of art museums and galleries. It focuses on art-making as a means of exploring, interpreting, and mediating works of art and on its use in museum and gallery education. Through practical activities, students become familiar with various forms of art-based educational activities, methods of facilitating them, and ways of integrating them into the structure of educational programmes. Particular attention is paid to the relationship between perception, interpretation, art-making, and reflection; the principles of the didactic transformation of the content and meanings of works of art; and the selection of appropriate artistic media and approaches with regard to the target audience and educational objectives. The course also includes the analysis of examples of good practice from art museums and galleries, the practical application and testing of selected methods, and the independent development of an educational programme based on a specific work of art, the work of a selected artist, a temporary exhibition, or a permanent exhibition.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: - understand the basic principles of art-based educational practice in art museums and galleries; - understand art-making as a means of exploring, interpreting, and mediating works of art; - analyse the structure and methodological principles of an educational programme; - select appropriate artistic media, techniques, and materials with regard to educational objectives, the nature of the artwork, and the target audience; - didactically transform selected art-related content into educational activities; - connect the perception and interpretation of works of art with participants' own art-making activities; - facilitate reflection on art-making activities and relate this reflection back to the interpreted artwork; - design and methodologically develop an original educational programme suitable for an art museum or gallery setting; - provide a professional rationale for their programme design and critically reflect on its possibilities and limitations. |

The course does not require any prior specialised education or training in art. Students are expected to have an interest in visual culture, museum and gallery education, and a willingness to actively participate in practical art-making and reflective activities.

| Assessment methods and criteria |
|
Student performance, Seminar Work
Active participation in seminars and practical art activities. Completion of assigned individual and group tasks, including active participation in their reflection and discussion. Development of an original educational programme. The programme proposal must specify the target audience, educational objectives, methodological approach, artistic media and methods used, and the form of final reflection. Students are also required to present and defend their proposed programme. Individual Study Plan (ISP): Students following an Individual Study Plan (ISP) are required to complete all assigned tasks by the agreed deadlines and to an appropriate standard. Attendance of at least 30% of classes is required. |
