Course content
Thematic content (indicative): 1) Terminological definition of terms, brief characterization in relation to prehistoric and ancient society. 2) Description of different cultural areas of antiquity - Egypt, Greece, Rome, India and gender issues. 3) Perspectives of the Middle Ages - typical manifestations of society in relation to gender (religion and status of women in the Middle Ages, women and education in the Middle Ages, etc.). 4) The change in society's thinking with the advent of the modern period (the impact of the Industrial Revolution, the beginnings of the feminist movement). 5) The arrival of the 20th century and the shift in people's thinking (the two world wars and their reflection in the field of gender). 6) Gender issues in Czechoslovakia (1918-1992) and the Czech Republic (since 1993) with emphasis on the main political events in the country (gender issues in the 21st century, characteristics of contemporary civilization).

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course will be to examine the development and changes in society's approach to gender issues. This will be set in a historical framework that will highlight the main problems of each era and characterize the ways in which they have been addressed in the past from antiquity to 21st century. The most significant historical milestones influencing the behaviour of society and shifts in people's thinking and behaviour in this area will be highlighted.
