Course content
Topics: Terminological definitions, brief characterization of prehistoric and ancient society. Description of various cultural areas of antiquity - Egypt, Greece, Rome, India and gender issues. Typical manifestations of society in the Middle Ages in relation to gender. The question of religion and the position of women in the Middle Ages. Women and education in the Middle Ages. Changing the thinking of society with the advent of modern times. Influence of industrial revolution. The beginnings of the feminist movement. The arrival of the 20th century   and a shift in people's thinking. Two world wars and their reflection on gender. Gender issues in Czechoslovakia (1918-1992) and the Czech Republic (1993-2000) with an emphasis on the main political events in the country. Problems of gender in the 21st century. Characteristics of contemporary civilization.

Learning outcomes
Learning outcomes of the course unit The aim of the course is to broaden the professional profile of a graduate of the Social Sciences program with a focus on education in the field of gender, emphasizing the influence of society on the contemporary exploitation of people's behavior and thinking. The course will offer an unconventional view of the development and changes in the attitude of society to the issue of gender. It will be set in a historical framework that will point out the main problems of individual epochs and characterizes ways of their solution in the past from antiquity to the present. The most significant milestones affecting the behavior of society, shifts in thinking and behavior of people in this area will be emphasized.
At the end of the course students should be able to: "to define basic terminological terms, "clarify the background of changes in the company, "explain the nature of the transformation of society from a gender perspective, "enumerate and characterize individual issues with an emphasis on the monitored issue, "assess the consequences of key events in relation to gender, "be able to identify stereotypes and examples of inappropriate gender behavior in the past and present.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance

Obligatory and active participation in consultations, elaboration of a seminar paper on a selected topic in the field of gender (with citations and foreign publications) in the range of 4-8 standard pages, self-study and preparation for credit, study of distance supports.
