Course content |
Topics: Theoretical definition of ethics as a scientific discipline (subject, methodology, goals, basic ethical subdisciplines, basal terminology, concepts of value, conscience, morality, good). Basic ideas of selected ethical directions. Ethical and moral dilemmas in the past and present society. Axiological and moral context of the educational process at present. Ethics and morality (relationship and differences). Conscience, the concept of the soul. Ethical virtues (meaning, historical parallels and changes in time). Happiness and good (ethical realism). Freedom and responsibility. Standards and values in society, definition of own values. Justice. Categorical imperative. Reason and emotions in practical ethics. Materialistic concept in ethics.

Learning outcomes |
The course will introduce students to the systematic interpretation of ethics and major ethical categories. Emphasis will also be placed on linking knowledge with some other social science disciplines (especially philosophy) and on applying theoretical knowledge to specific practical situations.
