Subject directs students to obtain a comprehensive view of the aquatic ecosystems that are shaped by many living and non-living components and their interactions and fulfill indispensable functions in the landscape and the entire biosphere. Water is introduced as an environment to their physico-chemical properties determine the course of physiological processes and influences the formation of various forms of life. Students are familiar with different types of water and wetland ecosystems, the hydrological cycles, cycles of substances in water, with heat and light regime of waters. Another part of the course, devoted to life in the aquatic environment, includes topics: the composition and structure of aquatic biota, adaptation and ecological functions of aquatic organisms, basic systematic overview of the organisms that live in water or are partially bound water environment (bacteria, protozoa, Chromista, plants , fungi, invertebrates and chordates). The training also included the issue of biological productivity of waters and the negative impacts of human activities on aquatic ecosystems (eg acidification, eutrophication
