Course content
|
Geology - definition, structure, objects of study. Position of the Earth as a planet of the Solar system.Physical and chemical properties of the Earth. Earth´s internal structure - crust, mantle and core. Endogenic dynamics (magmatism, volcanism, metamorphism, earthquake, tectonics). Plate tectonics. Evolution of the continental and oceanic crust. Exogenic dynamics (geological acrivitiy of water, wind, frost, organisms...). Short overview of the Earth´s evolution in the geological past.Overview of the geology of the Czech Republic. Practical determination of basic minerals, rocks and fossils.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course id to make the students acquainted with he basic knowledge of the inanimate nature as the fundament of all the natural processes.
After finishing the course, the students ought to have basic knowledge on the inanimate nature, to be acquainted with the geological terminology and with the basic methods of the work and to be able to determine the most important minerals, rocks and fossils.

Prerequisites

General knowledge at the level of basic school is supposed.

Written exam
The students ought to demonstrate basic theoretical and practical knowledge on geology.
