Course content
Topics: Legality and legal awareness. The legal system. Statutes of limitations and preclusion. Human rights issues and protection. Children's rights. Protection of property and intellectual property. Protection of personality rights. Common types of contracts. Consumer rights and dealings with public authorities. Liability for culpable conduct; administrative and criminal liability. Employment law issues. Family law and social-legal protection. Material need assistance and the Czech benefit system. Non-contentious and contentious proceedings; criminal proceedings.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students should be able to: <LI> navigate basic legal concepts across various branches of law and understand their practical application, <LI> articulate legal norms in terms of both their systematic structure and specific legal concepts and institutions, <LI> navigate the various branches of law and the legal system as a whole, <LI> apply selected legal concepts in everyday life, at school, and in the workplace, <LI> analyze in greater depth concepts related to the rights and obligations of individuals in society, <LI> understand the procedural options available in cases where criminal or civil law norms are violated.

Student performance

In-person study: active participation in the seminar, independent study (preparation for course credit), and completion of the assigned topic. Further information regarding the course will be available at the beginning of the scheduled semester in the LMS MOODLE system. For students on an Individual Study Plan (ISP): minimum 30% class attendance and completion of assigned tasks.
