Course content

Basic themes: 1. The case study as a qualitative research strategy versus the case report. 2. The case study as a qualitative approach strategy - 'case study' in the real sense of the word. 3. Position of the case study in the methodology of scientific approaches. 4. Three basic approaches to the case study: concepts by Merriam, Yin and Stake 5. Typology of case studies. 6. Designing Case Studies 7. Advantages and shortcomings of the qualitative case study. 8. Triangulation - necessary part of a qualitative research study.

Learning outcomes
|
Aims of the subject / students will be able to: The main aim of the discipline is to acquaint students with the essential attributes of the case study (method), to distinguish it from the case report (technique) and to equip students with the knowledge that they can apply to their own research topics. A partial aim of the study discipline is to critically assess the suitability of applying the case study as an autonomous or complementary method, step by step be able to prepare a research proposal and defend it.

Prerequisites
|
Presumed competencies: Fundamentals of scientific and research activities using student's critical thinking. Student's ability to understand the specifics and differences in individual research strategies (quantitative, qualitative, mixed). Basic knowledge of qualitative approach and its methods.
