Explanation of the term alternative education system and its characteristics. Sources of alternative pedagogy. Education system by R. Steiner ? Waldorf School. Education system by M. Montessori ? Montessori School. Educational system by P. Petersen ? Jenaplan school. Educational system by C. Freinet ? Freinet school. Other selected alternative education systems and their brief characteristics. Alternative education systems as a source of inspiration for reforming traditional schools.

Learning outcomes
|
Students will learn about the origins of educational reforms in the innovative attitudes of pedagogical movements and individual thinkers of the past. At the same time, they will understand the criticism of 19th century education which was under the influence of Herbartism. They will learn about the preferences of pedagogical reformers of the 1920s and 1930s and they will be able to analyze the reformative efforts of the period. Students will study the most prevalent alternative school systems, and they will be encouraged to use them as a source of insperation for reforming traditional schooling. They will be able to compare the main principles of different alternative systems and they learn to apply them to their teaching practice.
