Course content
Topics: (always 1 lesson) 1. Definition of basic terms - intercultural education (multicultural education, global education), intercultural communication; intercultural competence; intercultural conflict. Intercultural education: aims and methods. 2. Numerical representation of minorities in the Czech Republic, their characteristics, status and possibilities of inclusion; relationship minority and majority. 3. Methodology of work with foreign pupils in primary schools - theoretical approaches, practical experience, stakeholders. Institutions. 4. Preparation of teachers for the implementation of intercultural education. Intercultural education as a topic in other European countries.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, participants should be able to: - define the concept of intercultural education and other basic concepts, - formulate the goals of intercultural education, describe strategies leading to the achievement of its goals, - assess the implementation of intercultural education in the Czech Republic in the context of European developments, - name and characterize minorities (living in the Czech Republic), assess minority-majority relations, - to explain the position of foreigners in the Czech Republic, including the possibilities and pitfalls of their integration into social life in the Czech Republic, with a focus on integration into the educational system, - describe the current situation in schools in relation to the education of foreign pupils/pupils with a different mother tongue, - apply theoretical knowledge, acquired skills and general experience to teaching in a heterogeneous group, - interact effectively and responsively with pupils according to their educational needs, with their parents and with the community.
