Course content
Institutionalization of upbringing and education within the culture of individual societies. Paideia as type of education in the societies of Ancient Greece and Rome. Education as education during the period of European Middle Ages. Bildung as type of education for Modern Europe. Significant personalities in theory and practice of European upbringing and education.

History of pedagogy - pedagogical legacy of the past. J.A. Comenius and his views on educating children. His followers and predecessors. Historical development of schooling in the Czech lands. Modern trends in pedagogy and their reflexion in the Czech pedagogy and education.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam

Active participation in lessons. Self-study of selected topics as preparation for seminars. Successful completion of a test of knowledge of facts.
