Course content
Language as a system. Phonetics and phonology, Morphology - types of morphemes and morphometric word analysis. Syntax: terminology and understanding of traditional concepts. Historiolinguistics -typological criterion (analytical and synthetic languages) and genetic criterion. Overview of Indo-European languages. Sociolinguistics: professional language, language of young people, ideological language, gender linguistics. Textual linguistics: an overview of basic issues.

At the end of the course students should be able to: - differentiate basic linguistic units including characterize individual linguistic disciplines and orientate in basic terminology of linguistics
