Learning outcomes
|
Familiarization oneself with various kinds of "Popular Music", i.e. Afro-American folk music, traditional popular music, and also contemporary Pop Music, Chansons, Musicals and Jazz. Most attention is focused on the last-mentioned subject, its history and selected theoretical issues.

Student performance
A student prepares written theses for the exam on: 1. one thematic area that they choose from the structure of the field of Theory and History of NAH according to I. Poledňák (POLEDŇÁK, I. Theory and History of NAH. In Lébl, V., Poledňák, I. (eds.) Musicology III. Prague: State Pedagogical Publishing House, 1988). 2. A second topic that corresponds with the issue of their doctoral dissertation either in content or methodology. The length of the written theses for the exam is a total of 4 standard pages. The student also attaches a list of studied literature from the theory and history of NAH, including at least 10 titles. Three titles must be in a foreign language (E, N).
