Course content
An overview of specialisms in non-medical healthcare professions in CR and their competencies. Structure of a multidisciplinary healthcare team and means of effective communication. Philosophy of home care, its history and today's profile, forms, legal norms, and law prescriptions, members of a multidisciplinary team of the agencies of home care in CR. Founding, sources, and financing of the agencies of home care. Personalistics and material/technical equipment of the agencies of home care. Work with a client in their home environment concerning the service providing of the agencies of home care. Hospice care - its philosophy, history, the basic idea of hospice care, types and forms of hospice care. Specifics of the care for the hospice client with a focus on their biopsychosocial and spiritual needs, rights of a dying person and a terminally ill person. Problematics of euthanasia. Thanatology - dying and death in the past, needs of a dying person and their relatives, dying process stages.

Learning outcomes
After passing this course, students should be able to: - Specify the structure of a multidisciplinary healthcare team and the competencies of the particular professions, - Explain the focus, organizational aspects, and structure of a multidisciplinary team of home care agencies, - Inform about the specifics of the work with a client in a home environment, - Characterize the principles and forms of hospice care and the specifics of the care for patients, - Define the principles of palliative care, - Present the focus of thanatology and the needs of a dying person and his/her relatives, - Clarify the problematics of euthanasia.
Students can specify the structure of a multidisciplinary healthcare team and knows about the competencies of the particular professions. A student defines the work of the home care agencies and knows the specifics of the work with clients in their home environment. Students can explain and describe palliative care and the most frequent problems arising when taking care of an incurable or dying person. Students can define the principles and forms of hospice care. Students know about the problematics of euthanasia from the ethical, legislative, and medical point of view. Students are well informed in the problematics of thanatology.
Prerequisites
For students of the Speech Therapy study program.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance, Seminar Work, Written exam

Student requirements Each student will prepare a seminar paper on a given subject topic, which will be submitted at least a week before the credit is awarded. Checking and evaluating individual work by the teacher is a prerequisite for obtaining credit. Credit will be awarded based on the completed tasks listed above and the processing of a didactic test. Recommended participation in lectures. Credit requirements: 1) Choose a specific diagnosis from a congenital, perinatally acquired, infectious or non-infectious disease and process it in the following structure: classification of the disease in terms of epidemiology, etiopathogenesis and therapy of the disease, its prevalence in the Czech Republic. Analysis of offered preventive measures (MoH, individual health insurance companies, state and non-profit organizations), health support programs and projects (supranational org. = WHO and national institutions = SZÚ, CZSO, ÚZIS, NZIP). Draw from professional literature, professional articles (possible also in English) - with a written analysis by the student (min. scope 2 A4 pages); 2) Attach a selection of a suitable video related to the selected diagnosis - with a written analysis by the student (min. scope 1 A4 page). 3) All sources used will be cited both in the text itself and in the final "List of sources" in accordance with ČSN ISO 690:2022. 4) Insert the semester work into STAG, in the "Semester work" section under the subject abbreviation KAZ/PCLN@ by the deadlines set at the beginning of the semester. Requirements for the written credit exam: After approving the uploaded seminar work file (in the UP Portal - accepted), it is possible to register for the written exam in the STAG study agenda system (again via the UP Portal). Requirements for students with an individual study plan: full-time teaching in the amount of at least 20%; see above (identical requirements for credit and examination). Requirements for students during the ERASMUS+ study stay: 1) As a substitute for participation in direct teaching: preparation of a semester paper on a given topic related to its specifics in the visited country and university and its entry into STAG, in the "Semester Paper" section under the subject abbreviation KAZ/ PCLN@ on the dates set at the beginning of the semester. The scope of the paper and its structure will be specified at the beginning of the semester via e-mail communication using the student's generated e-mail address in the UP Portal. 2) Completion of the course will take place after the student returns from the study stay to the Czech Republic in the same form as for full-time students on a specific date agreed in advance with the student again by e-mail and entered into STAG.
