Course content
Definition of the term nursing. History of nursing, philosophy of nursing, its current concept, organization and management of nursing services in the Czech Republic. Nursing process, its characteristics, individual phases - anamnesis, diagnostics, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care. Theory of human needs and needs of patients - ways of their optimal fulfillment. Communication in nursing. Philosophy of home care, its history and current profile, forms, legal norms and regulations, members of the multidisciplinary team of home care agencies in the Czech Republic. Establishment, resources and financing of home care agencies. Human resources and material and technical equipment of home care agencies. Working with the client in his home environment within the framework of the services provided by the home care agency. Hospice care - its philosophy, history, basic idea of hospice care, types and forms of hospice care. Care of the hospice client with a focus on his biopsychosocial and spiritual needs. Principles of palliative care, rights of the dying and terminally ill. Issues of euthanasia. Thanatology - dying and death in the past, the needs of the dying and their loved ones, the stages of the dying process.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course, students should be able to: ? Define the concept of nursing, it?s history and philosophy. ? Characterize the nursing process and its individual phases. ? Categorize human needs, including their adequate fulfillment. ? Justify the specifics of communication with clients. ? Explain the nature and functioning of Home Care Agencies. ? Describe the history and forms of hospice care.

Prerequisites
Completion of the following subjects: Somatology 1 and 2, Theory of Health and Disease, and Issues of Active Aging.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam, Student performance, Dialog, Seminar Work

Student requirements Each student will prepare a seminar paper on a given subject topic, which will be submitted at least a week before the credit is awarded. Checking and evaluating individual work by the teacher is a prerequisite for obtaining credit. Credit and examination will be awarded based on the completed tasks listed above and the preparation of a didactic test. Recommended attendance at lectures, min. 50% attendance at seminars. Credit requirements: 1) Processing a selected diagnosis from the offered diagnoses of an infectious or non-infectious disease in the following structure: classification of the disease in terms of epidemiology, etiopathogenesis and therapy of the disease, its prevalence in the Czech Republic. Analysis of the offered preventive measures (MoH, individual health insurance companies, state and non-profit organizations), health support programs and projects (supranational org. = WHO and national institutions = SZÚ, CZSO, ÚZIS, NZIP). Drawing from professional literature, professional articles (possible also in English) - with a written analysis by the student (min. scope 3 standard A4 pages); 2) Selection of a suitable video related to the selected diagnosis - with a written analysis by the student (min. scope 1 A4 page). 3) All sources used will be cited both in the text itself and in the final "List of sources" in accordance with ČSN ISO 690:2022. 4) Insertion of the semester work into STAG, in the "Semester work" section under the subject abbreviation KAZ/PBNE@ by the deadlines set at the beginning of the semester. Exam requirements: After approval of the inserted seminar work file (in the UP Portal - accepted), it is possible to register for the written exam in the STAG study agenda system (again via the UP Portal). Requirements for students with an individual study plan: full-time education in the amount of at least 20%, alternatively joint education with combined study - see the subject KAZ/KBNE@, i.e. 4 hours of direct teaching according to the schedule; see above (identical requirements for credit and examination). Requirements for students during the implementation of the ERASMUS+ study stay: 1) As a substitute for participation in direct teaching: preparation of a semester work on a given topic related to its specifics in the visited country and university and its entry into STAG, in the "Semester work" section under the abbreviation of the subject KAZ/PBNE@ by the dates set at the beginning of the semester. The scope of the work and its structure will be specified at the beginning of the semester via e-mail communication using the student's generated e-mail address in the UP Portal. 2) Completion of the course will take place after the student returns from the study stay to the Czech Republic in the same form as for full-time students, on a specific date agreed in advance with the student and entered into STAG.
