Diagnosis and symptoms of pregnancy. Changes in the organism of a pregnant woman. Physiological gravidity. High-risk and pathological pregnancy. Child and mother care system, prenatal advisory centers, pregnancy examination methods. Lifestyle during pregnancy. Prenatal preparation, pregnancy courses/workshops, birth plan. Pregnancy length, date of delivery, options of ending a pregnancy. Risk and pathological childbirth, operative childbirth. Breastfeeding - importance, breast milk composition, breastfeeding techniques, frequency, contraindication, aids. Saturation of mother's and child's bio-psycho-socio-spiritual needs. Nowadays' aspects of family care.

After passing the course, students should be able to: - Specify the optimal bio-psycho-social aspects for physiological progress of gravidity and its planning, - Characterize the particular stages of physiological gravidity, - Categorize the physiological and pathological pregnancy, - Describe the childbirth process, including the alternative ways of expectant mother/pregnant woman care, - Explain the importance of postnatal care during the puerperium, including the benefits of breastfeeding for a newborn child, - Formulate the requirements for fulfilling the bio-psycho-socio-spiritual needs of a mother and her child, - Demonstrate the knowledge of newborn child/infant/toddler care while emphasizing the biological and healthcare aspects, - Analyze the psychological, social, and legal aspects of family care (care for mother and child).
Students are well educated in the problematics of the course. |
