Health and disease terminology. National Program of Preparation for Ageing. National Action Plan for Positive Ageing for the Period 2013 - 2017. Demographic development of aging and old age in Europe, developed countries, and developing countries. Whole society consequences of population aging. Problematics of self-sufficiency and dependency in old age. Intercultural differences in longevity of a population. Influence of the lifestyle on longevity. Aging theories. Protective factors during aging. Health condition and problematics of polymorbidity in old age. The most frequent diseases of old age. Complex health and social care for older people. Gerontologic prevention and esthetics of care for older people. Social exclusion of seniors and its consequences. Preparation for old age from the perspective of care of one's health condition, psychical well-being, and social integration. Options of psychic activation of seniors. Importance of exercising and suitability of physical activity choices of seniors. Influence of the ICT development on the life and education of seniors. Long-life education - forms, means, and advantages available in the personal development of seniors. Citizens' association "ŽIVOT 90", protective aspects of social exclusion and aging. After passing the course, students should be able to: - Define the basic theory of aging with regards to the theory of health and disease, protective factors during the process of aging, - Characterize the physiologic and pathologic processes of aging from the point of view of a bio-psycho-socio-spiritual aspect, - Explain the problematics of old age and aging (in past and today) with regards to the intergenerational relations, - Clarify the state of polymorbidity in old age. Evaluate the optimal approach towards this phenomenon with regards to the options of prevention, - Describe the relations between the prediction of demographic development of society and the seniors' current needs; determine and evaluate the symptoms of aging in society, - Analyze the national programs and strategies of positive aging of the population in the 21st century, - Explain the pros of long-life education and its influence on the life quality of seniors and pre-seniors, - Argue in favor of a proactive approach to health during aging (including pre-senior age), - Evaluate the problematics of dying and thanatology in today's Czech society.

Communication in the form of consultations, via email, and through LMS Unifor. The study guide for the course (CHRÁSKOVÁ, M. Problematika aktivního stárnutí. Olomouc: UP, 2017) is available online in LMS Unifor system as "Problematika aktivního stárnutí" (http://unifor.upol.cz/pedagogicka/; user name: akteditacekaz; password: akreditacekaz). Students elaborate a final paper on a given topic (5 standard pages A4, including the source references and citations according to the ISO 690 norm). Students then submit the final paper through Portal UP - portal.upol.cz, section "My study" - "Semestral work". The paper undergoes the plagiarism control here automatically. Topics: Demographical indicators and their influence on urbanization with regards to the development of the population in a society. National programs and strategies of positive aging.
