Course content
Definition of the concept of nursing. History and philosophy of nursing, it?s current perspective, Organization and management of nursing services in the Czech Republic (ČR). Nursing process, including its phases (anamnesis, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care). Theories of human needs and needs of the diseased - how to fulfill their needs optimally. Communication in nursing. Philosophy of home care, its history, and contemporary profile, Forms, legal norms, and regulations of home care agencies in ČR Members of multidisciplinary teams in home care agencies in ČR. Establishment, resources, and financing of home care agencies. Personnel and material-technical equipment of home care agencies. Working with clients in their home environment within the services provided by home care agencies. Hospice care ? it?s philosophy, history and basic principles, types and forms of hospice care. Providing care to hospice clients with a focus on their biopsychosocial and spiritual needs. Principles of palliative care, the rights of dying and terminally ill individuals. The issue of euthanasia. Thanatology ? dying and death in the past, the needs of the dying and their relatives/loved ones, phases of the dying process.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course, students should be able to: ? Define the concept of nursing, it?s history and philosophy. ? Characterize the nursing process and its individual phases. ? Categorize human needs, including their adequate fulfillment. ? Justify the specifics of communication with clients. ? Explain the nature and functioning of Home Care Agencies. ? Describe the history and forms of hospice care.

Prerequisites none Students are able to interpret the knowledge they obtained in the course.
