Course content
Introduction to cultural anthropology, the term culture and other basic terminology of cultural anthropology; field research as a critical method of social anthropology, brief field history of cultural anthropology, examples of crucial personalities and periods of cultural anthropology; basics of anthropology theories; formation of identity (with respect to the culture); basic ethnologies and ethnographies; traditional and modern rituals; mythology, magic, and religion with respect to the context of cultural anthropology; anthropology of body in the context of culture; mass media and their influence on everyday life.

Learning outcomes
The objective of this course is to introduce students to the fundamentals of cultural anthropology, which is a field of study focusing on the relationship between humans and culture, with specific emphasis on genesis, development, structure, and functions of various cultural systems in time and space. The focus will also be on studying cultures that are going through changes influenced by specific human nongenetic factors reflected in artifacts, norms, regulations, and shared ideas between the members of the society.
After passing the course, students should be able to: - Define the term culture from different points of view of the cultural anthropology, - describe the basic features (qualities) of culture and the process of its acquirement, - understand the phenomena of cultural diversity and ethnocentrism, - present arguments in favor of cultural relativism, - understand the purpose of cultural institutions, the importance of cultural artifacts, norms, regulations, ideas, and traditions, - comprehend the meaning of cultural identity, - understand the principle according to which mass media works and their influence on everyday life, - apply the knowledge of cultural anthropology mentioned above in particular model examples (situations) based on the daily life of a human as a part of the culture.

The presence in the lectures is recommended. Requirements for the colloquium: choice of 1.) a suitable book concerning the particular topic of cultural anthropology - with student's analysis (minimum of 2 standard pages A4); 2) a suitable video concerning the particular topic of cultural anthropology - with student's analysis - with precisely made bibliographic references (minimum of 1 standard page A4).
