Course content
|
The main chapters of Lexicology, dealing with topics such as word meaning, word formation, lexical relations, etymological survey, register, etc, are dealt with in the lectures. Lectures and seminars are closely connected; theoretical principles investigated in the lectures are discussed during the seminars via practical examples. Handouts are set as homework for each seminar, so that students have more time to reflect on problems. In the seminars students are also familiarized with all possible types of dictionaries (printed and on CD-ROM as well as on-line) and are shown how to use the British National Corpus website for their benefit.
