Topics: Introduction to literary theory The concept of literature Literary genres and styles The structure of a literary text The language of a literary text Tropes and figures Narrative genres Elementary terms for the analysis of poetry, fiction and drama

Learning outcomes
Aims: After completing the course students will be able to: - understand literary texts in English, - define theoretical approaches to the interpretation of literary texts, - apply theoretical approaches to the analysis of a literary text, - assess the quality of a literary text based on their theoretical knowledge, - use appropriate language when interpreting literary texts, - analyse and evaluate the quality of a literary text in a discussion, an essay or a review.
