Course content
|
Topics: A child in kindergarten in terms of English learning opportunities. Methods and procedures for the initial introduction of preschool children to English. Motivating preschoolers to actively use English. Listening activities (listen and perform, listen and show, listen and draw, listen and repeat) for preschool children. Songs and rhymes in teaching English to preschool children. Stories and dramatic activities suitable for teaching English in preschool. Movement games suitable for teaching English in preschool. Practical application of theoretical knowledge (micro teachings).

Learning outcomes
|
Upon completion of the course, students should be able to: - Characterize the kindergarten student from a developmental psychology perspective, - describe and implement basic methods of teaching English appropriate for preschool children, - describe and effectively use a wide range of listening and speaking activities appropriate for teaching English to preschool children, - use appropriate songs, rhymes, games and dramatic activities in the teaching of preschool children, - assess the suitability and appropriateness of English teaching materials for pre-school children and develop their own materials as appropriate.

Assessment methods and criteria

Student performance, Systematic Observation of Student, Analyssis of the Student's Portfolio, Seminar Work
- 80% attendance, - active participation in lessons, - timely completion of homework as required by the teacher, - timely submission of a term paper meeting all teacher's requirements. Requirements for students with ISP: - students must complete all tasks set by the teacher during and at the end of the semester - attendance is not compulsory - at the end of the semester, students might be interviewed by the teacher to demonstrate that they independently acquired all the course content dealt with in the lessons
