Course content

Topics: Genre, literary forms. Narrative forms, short story. Narrative forms, novel. Character. Structure of a literary work. Suspense, Poetry: figures of speech (metaphor, simile, symbolism). Ballad.

Learning outcomes
|
The course in the winter term is designed as an elementary introduction to basic literary terms that can be considered as technical tools to enable students to approach literary texts and deal with the intellectually challenging problems that they encounter in literature. Students are expected to develop a habit of regular reading in a foreign language. The winter term focuses on literary theory necessary for interpretation of short stories and poetry.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Analysis of Creative works (Music, Pictorial,Literary)
Students are required: to read on schedule (In the seminar they will get shorter texts: short stories or poems which they must read as your homework), participate actively in class discussions, be able to use and explain literary terms and conventions, read 5 books in English in every term and be prepared to discuss them with the teacher.
